Must-read books

These books were among of 75 book listed by Esquire ‘must read in your lifetime’.

I think I should grab this book. A good man is hard to find by Flannery O’Connor.

And this is another must-read-book. A man changed after he read a book (I think the reviewer refers to The Holy Quran). The book is entitled “The autobiography of Malcolm X” (or aka Malek El Shabbaz). The only auto biography in the list. Usually an autobiography is about amazing people who had done tremendous deeds. I bet this book is inspiring.

And I just don’t get it why good people who fight for people’s right like Malcolm X, and Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated. Why do assassins kill these kind of people? Don’t we want peace and the good in this world?

Bookalicious

I managed to read 2 books in a week time (that’s a tremendous success for a person named Ainee). Hahah. Girls of Riyadh and The girl with a pearl earring.

Girls of Riyadh (thanks nisa) tells me that it is a universal thing, that girls want freedom, to be loved and to be taken care of. I wonder why it is very difficult to find a loving and devoted husband like prophet Muhammad. Gosh guys. All you care is your egoistic testicles. For mercy heaven sake, Allah loves those who love their family.

When I first saw the book “eh! scarlett johansson’s movie!” and then I picked it up and borrowed it from my favourite library. The girl with a pearl earring managed to make me read it till the end. But most of the time, it manages send me to deep sleep. thanks. at least i had my sleep back. hahah. but yeah, overall, it manages to keep the thrill. 3 stars for the book. Not so scandalous as i expected. Heh.

Aku join sindiket

Sebab saje nk bg korang dengki sebab tak dapat beli buku tu, sy pn nk cerita apa yg best tntg buku tu (matjan promot buku bla3)”.

Haha. Takde orang denga pon. Lalalala.

Semasa Kak Nasriah bacakan sajak, bulu roma meremang. Tatau nape. Powerful betul.

Namun, deklamasinya makin mantap. Last time aku dengar di bersajak atas batu di tepi pantai dalam filem 80an (nama filem dah lupa, hehe). Sempat nampak orang rumah Pak Pyan, Kak Zu. Wah, maintain jelita. Tak sempat nak tegur. Tengah make call masa tu. Satu la pasal derang. Ai respek gila kat derang. Derang berkahwin sebelum bercinta. Kak Zu tak kenal pun siapa Pak Pyan sebelum kahwin.

Ada gadis manis yang menyanyi lagu cintan. Ada lari pitching sikit tapi kene menten cun. Mendapat tepukan gemuruh dari soljah. Lewat malam benar dia manyanyi. Tak fokus aku pada lirik sbb dh nk blk. Tapi lirik dia sedap. Ok. Aku pun kena balik. Yalah. Dah besa macam ni pun kena ada curfew. Aku bukan gi clubbing. *mengomel*

“mancet” kata rasso.

“what’s that?” tanya aku.

“trefik jem”, sengih rasso.

ches.

Overall, aku suka maskara.

Oh ye, this reminds me of my Maybelline mascara aku yang dah nak abes. 😛

Bleh?

QDB.us: Books

Me: I’m so happy to buy this book. I thought it was hundred (Kinokuniya sold it to me for RM 63.80).

Him: Hmm. When it comes to reading material for computer, I prefer e-book. Books on computers are quickly outdated you see.

Me: Still, I cannot find any other book that suits the topic that I want to talk about. Although this book is published in 2004, no one writes on the same topic like he does.

Him: Ok fine but I still prefer electronic version.

Me: *haywire*

World book day

Today is World Book Day. I still remember that I used to collect loads of World Book Day postcard in MARJON, and sent some to Malaysia (It’s frolicking free!! 😀 I only need to pay 47 pence for the stamp!). One of my suggestion to my mak is Roald Dahl. But obviously, my mom does not read in English. But yeah, I still bug her to read good books. I hope the books that I presented to her has been read. *cross fingers*

This year, I’m celebrating World Book Day in Malaysia. I miss cheap good books in the UK. I wish Malaysia have Amazon.com (I know that Ujana Ilmu is almost similar but still, not a vast variety of books), carboot sale, book depository and friendly small local book store (they read before they sell).

Just now one of my friends [let’s name her adik] told me of her suggestion to do book fair in my college. She went to the library, asking the librarian to help her in the project. However, she was disappointed with the respond given.

“2- Kakak library: [The librarian shows a French story book] Adik tahu harga ni berapa? Cuba adik teka?

Adik: Urm, tatau. Kalau kat Malaysia, belas-belas la kot?

Kakak library: Satu ni RM70. Daripada adik nak buat pesta buku, baik adik suruh budak² ni disiplin. Buku banyak yang kehilangan muka surat. Kena conteng.”

“Adik susah la. Publisher takmau datang bila kita cakap bilangan student kat sini berapa.”

“[After Adik showed a dissappointed face] Akak tahu cadangan adik tu bagus, tapi hakikatnya memang payah”

Hwargh. I seriously could not imagine what would I feel if I were in Adik’s shoes. Never mind adik! I will support you 110%. I somehow feel embarrassed with Malaysian’s reading habit. I believe that “you are what you read”. Reading builds foundation for your thinking. I know the fact that reading Roadl Dahl’s books has made me become a person who think out of the box. I am not ordinary. I am not a commoner. I am odd and special. I thank Roadl Dahl for stimulating my brain to be a creative and imaginative thinker. I thank God for creating Roadl Dahl and gave him inspiration to inspire others.

In the end, adik decided to do “Used books sale”. Much practical and will not waste much money. No publisher will take high risk and everyone will be happy. AND, it saves trees too! I hope many people will participate and interested to sell and buy books.

Happy world book day!!
